About the Assessment
A PCO (Public Carriage Office) medical is a mandatory health assessment required for all private hire and taxi drivers licensed by Transport for London and most UK local councils.
It ensures drivers meet the DVLA Group 2 medical standard — the same standard required for HGV and bus drivers. The assessment covers vision, cardiovascular health, neurological fitness, diabetes management, and overall physical and mental wellbeing.
Upon passing, you receive a completed D4 medical form and a covering letter accepted by TfL and other licensing authorities. Medicals are required every 3 years (under 45), annually (45–65), or every 6 months (over 65).
